American Ornithology
Thinkspace Gallery, Culver City, CA
‘American Ornithology’ at Thinkspace Gallery is an an ironic take on adjusting in a new place. Having stayed in Los Angeles for about a year and a half around the time, I felt at times unsettled, unrooted and estranged. Struggling to get used to this new environment, I created the body of work as an ornithologist of sorts. As a reference to the passion I grew up with, bird-watching, I attempted viewing the city and the people with a similar curiosity. Exploring the people as well as their environments -or biotopes- resulting in a series of heavily figure-based portraits.
